Frequently Asked Questions

How do I request a puppy from Ohio Dobermans?

After browsing this website and reading the following frequently asked questions, you may either submit a contact request at the bottom of this page or call me at 614-594-9442.
I look forward to speaking with you!

What type of training do you do?

The vast majority of our clients train for obedience (sit, down, place, come here, etc.)
Some dogs / owners are more advanced and train with tunnels, jumps, etc.
Capable dogs and owners can pursue personal protection!

Are your Dobermans good family dogs?

Generally, yes!  Our Dobermans are bred to be family companions with high intelligence and a desire to be trained; aggression toward the family is highly unusual.

Are your Dobermans good with other dogs?

Generally, yes!  However dobermans are known for same sex aggression - a territorial characteristic that manifests more often in males than in females, and more often in intact dogs than fixed dogs.  If you plan to have more than one dog of the same sex, please reach out to discuss ways to minimize any risk.

Are Dobermans good protection dogs?

Generally, yes!  Dobermans are the only AKC recognized breed that was created with the sole purpose of protecting humans from other humans.  They are expected to have some level of natural suspicion or protective instinct, and we have the expertise to guide you to the best possible Doberman for your specific needs.

Are your parent dogs health tested and/or titled?

Absolutely!  The extent of health testing and titles varies for each set of parent dogs.  Details about each puppy's parents is made available to all puppy owners.

What type of health guarantee do you provide?

We provide an unprecedented Limited Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee in writing.

Do you breed other types of dogs?

Nope!  Just Dobermans.

Can I pick my own puppy?

Yep!  Each puppy is evaluated at 7 weeks old, and their behavioral characteristics are compared to your unique experience, needs, and goals.  You will have the opportunity to either approve or deny our recommendation(s) for the best possible pup!

Do you provide AKC full registration (breeding rights)?

Generally, no.  Ideally all of our pups will develop into breeding quality adults, however, in an effort to maintain the integrity of the breed and our own rigorous standards, only select dogs will meet the necessary criteria for breeding.  Please call for details.

How do I know you aren't a scammer?

Scams are abundant in our world today - especially in the dog world.  To dispel any concerns, Ohio Dobermans is available by phone AND in person.  We encourage you to visit our home to meet us and see how we operate (by appointment only).

Do you offer Dobermans that are already trained?

Absolutely!  Please see our Trained Dobermans page for current availability.

Do you breed American or European Dobermans?

Most of our bloodlines use both European and American Dobermans together.  We do this for a variety of reasons, the most important of which is that it extends their life expectancy.

Do you accept your dogs back?

Absolutely!  We take the safety and well-being of our dogs so seriously that we contractually require them to be returned to us if the owner is unable to keep them for any reason, however refunds are not provided.

What should I expect to pay for a Doberman puppy?

Our pricing is based on age and training, starting at $4,750 at 8 weeks old.  Beyond 8 weeks, our pups begin their training journey and their price increases accordingly as their level of training increases.  Sex, color, size, and temperament do not impact the cost.
