In an effort to filter spam, direct verbal communication is required. I look forward to speaking with you!
What type of training do you do?
The vast majority of our clients train for obedience (sit, down, place, come here, etc.)
Some dogs / owners are more advanced and train with tunnels, jumps, etc.
Capable dogs and owners can pursue protection training or bite sports.
Are your Dobermans good family dogs?
Generally, yes! Our Dobermans are bred to be family companions with high intelligence and a desire to be trained; aggression toward the family is highly unusual.
Are your Dobermans good with other dogs?
Generally, yes! However dobermans are known for same sex aggression - a territorial characteristic that manifests more often in males than in females, and more often in intact dogs than fixed dogs. If you plan to have more than one dog of the same sex, please reach out to discuss ways to minimize any risk.
Are Dobermans good protection dogs?
Generally, yes! Dobermans were created with the sole purpose of protecting humans from other humans. They are expected to have some level of natural suspicion or protective instinct, and we have the expertise to guide you to the best possible Doberman for your specific needs.
Are your parent dogs health tested and/or titled?
Absolutely! The extent of health testing and titles varies for each set of parents, and these details are made available to all puppy owners.
What type of health guarantee do you provide?
We provide an unprecedented Limited Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee in writing for all pups that come through our breeding program.
Do you breed other types of dogs?
Nope! Just Dobermans.
Can I pick my own puppy?
Yep! Our puppies are evaluated at 7 weeks old, and their behavioral characteristics are matched to your unique experience, needs, and goals. You will have the opportunity to either accept or decline any of the pups that we recommend to you.
Do you provide AKC full registration (breeding rights)?
Generally, no. Ideally all of our pups will develop into breeding quality adults, however, in an effort to maintain the integrity of the breed and our own rigorous standards, only select dogs will meet the necessary criteria for breeding. Please inquire for details.
How do I know you aren't a scammer?
Scams are abundant in our world today - especially in the dog world. To dispel any concerns, Ohio Dobermans is available by phone AND in person. We encourage you to visit our home to meet us and see how we operate (by appointment only).
Do you offer Dobermans that are already trained?
Absolutely! Please see our Trained Dobermans page for current availability.
Do you breed American or European Dobermans?
Most of our bloodlines use both European and American Dobermans together. We do this for a variety of reasons, the most important of which is that it directly correlates to a longer life expectancy.
Do you accept your dogs back?
Absolutely! We take the safety and well-being of our dogs so seriously that we contractually require them to be returned to us if the owner is unable to keep them for any reason.
What should I expect to pay for a Doberman puppy?
$4,750 for an 8 week old puppy. Beyond 8 weeks old, the price increases to reflect their exceedingly advanced training. Sex, color, size, or temperament do not impact the cost.
Should I rescue or buy a Doberman?
This is a great question, and it's one we get often. The short and brutal answer is "it depends". There are pros and cons with each option. For example:
- Rescue dogs (typically) have unknown hereditary health, temperament, and behavioral issues, however, you are absolutely giving a great life to a dog in need.
- Well-bred dogs have known hereditary health, temperament, and behavioral patterns. Not all well-bred dogs are perfect, but most of them are very predictable because these characteristics are identifiable and repeatable within a reputable breeding program.
We offer a great solution: Our "rescue" dogs are thoroughly tested for temperament and health, and offered to great homes at a fraction of the cost of a brand new puppy!
