Frequently Asked Questions
How do I request a puppy from Ohio Dobermans?
After browsing this website and reading the following frequently asked questions, you may either submit a contact request at the bottom of this page or call me at 614-594-9442.
I look forward to speaking with you!
What type of training do you do?
The vast majority of our clients train for obedience; sit, down, stand, place, come here, etc. Some are more advanced and include tricks such as tunnels, jumps, etc.
Capable dogs and owners can pursue personal protection!
Are your Dobermans good family dogs?
Generally, yes! Our Dobermans are bred to be excellent family companions with high intelligence and a desire to be trained; they are not expected to be unusually aggressive.
Are your Dobermans good with other dogs?
Generally, yes! Dobermans are known for same sex aggression - a territorial characteristic that manifests more often in males than in females. If you plan to have more than one dog of the same sex, please reach out to discuss ways to minimize any risk.
Are Dobermans good protection dogs?
Generally, yes! Dobermans are the only AKC recognized breed that was created with the sole purpose of protecting humans from other humans. They are expected to have some level of natural suspicion or protective instinct, and we have the expertise to guide you to the best possible Doberman for your specific needs.
Are your parent dogs health tested and/or titled?
Absolutely! The extent of health testing and titles varies for each dog, and specific information about each parent is made available to all of our puppy owners.
What type of health guarantee do you provide?
We provide a Limited Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee.
Do you breed other types of dogs?
Nope! Just Dobermans.
Can I pick my own puppy?
Each puppy is evaluated by a 3rd party at 7 weeks old, and their behavioral characteristics are compared to your unique needs and goals. You will have the opportunity to either approve or deny our recommendation(s) for the best possible pup!
Do you provide AKC full registration (breeding rights)?
Generally, no. Full registration may be granted (at no additional cost) on a case-by-case basis, conditionally, at or beyond 2 years old. Ideally all of our pups will develop into breeding quality adults, however, in an effort to maintain the integrity of the breed and our own rigorous standards, only select dogs will meet the necessary criteria for breeding.
How do I know you aren't a scammer?
Scams are abundant in our world today - especially in the dog world. To dispel any concerns, Ohio Dobermans is available by phone AND in person. We encourage you to visit our home to meet us and see how we operate (by appointment only).
What should I expect to pay for a Doberman puppy?
Our pricing is based on age and training, starting at $4,750 at 8 weeks old. The longer they stay here, the more training they receive, and their price increases accordingly. Sex, color, size, and temperament do not impact the cost.
Do you offer Dobermans that are already trained?
Absolutely! Please see our Trained Dobermans page for current availability.
Do you breed American or European Dobermans?
Both! Most of our bloodlines use both European and American Dobermans, typically with more European content. Occasionally we offer 100% European puppies as well.
Do you accept your dogs back?
Absolutely! We take the safety and well-being of our dogs so seriously that we contractually require them to be returned to us if the owner is unable to keep them for any reason, however refunds are not provided.
